Textile Industry in Antequera: a visit to Henchidero Museum. HISTORY + ECONOMICS

On December 2nd, our 4th Year students visited Antequera Museum of Textile Industry, after having researched into the main characteristics of the Industrial Revolution and the main features of Business Strategic plans. This activity combines the curriculum of three subjects: history, economics and IAEE,  into one common unit (Unidad Integrada), with shared guidelines and materials. 

The visit started with a morning walk with our guide in the nearby hills, from where they could see the location of all the textile industrial estate. After that, a short visit to Henchidero gardens followed, in which our students could see an old water wheel  in operation. A video and the visit to the museum completed the activity. 

During the visit, students could check what they had previously learned in History. They had the opportunity to see some of the artifacts on display, such as: a spinning jenny,  a flying shuttle,  a loom, or a jacquard loom.

In addition to that, they could see documents, advertisements and products that belonged to old textile companies which operated in Antequera. Our pupils were able to analyse the main business outlines of the companies and look for similarities and differences between old and new business strategies.

The Rock rules: Our trip to Gibraltar

ESO 2 & 3 students went on a school trip to Gibraltar on 17th June. For many of them it was the first time they left Spain and went abroad.  Our visit started in Grand Casemates Square, then we walked up Main street and visited Trafalgar Cemetery.  After a typical English lunch we went ice skating: it was serious fun! For some of the students  it was their first contact with a winter sport. After a healthy hour of sport it was time to go to the top of the rock by cable car in order to meet the famous apes and enjoy the spectacular views over the Strait. Even though some of the students had "bad encounters" with the monkeys the experience was really worth it. 

All in all, a very tiring yet satisfying activity. Pedro Espinosa will go back to the Rock next year.

El Torcal: Our experience

Here you are what some of our students told us about "El Torcal".


Aquí tenéis lo que algunos de nuestros alumnos nos contaron sobre "El Torcal".

My class, 2º A, and I were waiting for the bus at half past eight in the morning. In the bus, I was talking to my classmate. In the Torcal, first we visited the Lower Torcal, where we played a game called “cumpleaños”.Then, we saw “La casilla de Juan Ramos”. After that, in the Upper Torcal, we saw a video about the Torcal.

Then, we walked the yellow route. Halfway along the route, we had lunch.Finally, we came back to Antequera.

On Tuesday, the 8^th of May, 2012, I went with my family to the Torcal. I saw a variety of flowers and animals there. There were some oaks and maples, orchids, wild rose- bushes and ivies. And animals like the fox, a herd of goats, butterflies and an eagle. We fed the goats and the fox. My cousins came. They had never seen the Torcal and they thought it was very nice. We ate there with them.

There were many fossils in the soil, such as ammonites. We went to see the rocks which were shaped like a sphinx, the two guardians, the finger, the chalice, the “sombrerillo” and other things. We had a good time that day.

I think the excursion of Science was very funny and entertaining. I laughed with my friends and we took some photos. I think the video we saw was entertaining. The shapes of the rocks and the fossils were very cool. It was very hot and I ran out of my water halfway along the yellow route. I finished very tired and with a pain in my legs. I was moraine. All my friends burned the face and so did I. My sandwich was very good. I spoke to a German. The shape of some rocks was very interesting and rare.

We saw a fox and it was very near. We watched many foreigners. We made a model of fossil with plaster.

El Torcal, Antequera... let's go!

Our 2year students enjoyed a wonderful day in El Torcal. They learnt very much with the explanations from her teacher, Ana Artacho. Our Comenius Assistant, Scirin and our Language Assistant, Anthony were invited to join them. 

Our bilingual students prepared some posters, made interviews and took photos as part of the activity.

Nuestros alumnos de 2ESO disfrutaron de un día estupendo en El Torcal. Aprendieron mucho con las explicaciones de su profesora, Ana Artacho. También invitamos a nuestras Asistente Comenius, Scirin y a nuestro Asistente Lingüístico, Anthony a que se unieran.

Nuestros estudiantes bilingües prepararon algunos posters, hicieron entrevistas y fotos como parte de la actividad.

Excursion to Bobastro and the Castle of Teba

Last 10th February our 2ESO students went on an excursion to Bobastro and the Castle of Teba. Some of them have written very good compositions about it. Here you are some of them.

El pasado 10 de febrero nuestros alumnos de 2ESO fueron de excursión a Bobastro y el Castillo de Teba. Algunos de ellos han escrito unas redacciones muy buenas sobre ello. Aquí tenéis algunas de ellas.

"EXCURSION TO BOBASTRO AND THE CASTLE OF TEBA" by María Palomo Jiménez

First,we went to the "Moraleda" and we caught the bus at half past eight to go to the villa of Teba. When I was in the bus, I enjoyed very much with my friends, and we were laughing all the time. We arrived at Teba at about ten o'clock, and we went to the castle of Teba. The guide showed us it and told us a little of history of this castle. Then, we ate our breakfast at about eleven o'clock. When we finished, we caught the bus again, and we went to the ruins of Bobastro. In Bobastro, we could see the ruins in the countryside. And finally, we came back to Antequera. The excursion, in my opinion was very short and with little time to see the ruins and the castle.

First, we went to the castle of Teba and we got on the bus. On the bus some people were seasick and my partner vomited. We reached the castle of Teba and the monitor explained everything to us. The views were very nice. After that, we watched a video. Later, we ate the sandwich and went by bus to the ruins of Bobastro. My partner vomited again on the bus and we all were a little dizzy because the road had many curves and then we saw the ruins of Bobastro where I got a little bored. We saw what was left from a church and finally, we went by bus to school.

Last Friday, we went to Bobastro and the castle of Teba. We caught the bus around 8:30. First, we went to the castle. The boring man was talking all day. After that, we went to Bobastro. It was exciting, except for the man. It was cool, and the thermometer was kidding us: first, 3ºC, after a minute, 2ºC, some minutes later, 3ºC. At the end the temperature was 15ºC!! We walked a lot to see the ruins of a church in Bobastro, on the top of the mountain. We were 50 all together. In the bus, we were listening to music and watching videos. It was cool!
